Let’s get to know each other

Hi! I’m Avya and I’m excited to get to know you. I feel passionate that the more comfortable you are with your photographer, the more genuine emotions you can feel through the camera. I want to make sure you have a good idea of who I am before we start working together, so read more and learn more about me.

Passing Down a passion

Ever since I was a little girl, the art of photography has fascinated me. It all started because my mom was constantly taking pictures as my brother and I were growing up. Not only did I get to witness the fun she was having while she took the photographs, but I also got to appreciate the value of having those moment framed forever. My mom passed down her film camera and her passion to me.

After years of taking photos, I decided to make my passion more than a hobby. Now I capture memories and moments as a profession and I could not be more grateful.

The journey to Now

Born in North Carolina and raised in Georgia, I grew up in the south as an Indian American. I got to experience the best of my southern roots and also my Indian heritage. I learned Indian classical dancing and also went to cotillion, so likely not the most traditional upbringing, but I always had my camera to document it all.

When I turned 18, I left my home and lived in DC for university and absolutely fell in love with the city. While I was at university, I continued to enjoy my photography and joined my university photo club. And as another highlight of my 4 years there, I met the man that I now call my fiancé.

In 2018, I moved to San Francisco after university and found my new home. I’ve been here since (with the exception of year working in Oxford, England). In 2021, I started dating that cute guy I met at university and after a year of cross continental long distance, moving into a home, and getting a dog, he popped the question in Golden Gate Park.

Now we’re officially married! Planning a wedding is a crazy adventure and I learned so much from the experience and I will definitely be carrying what I’ve learned into my career.

My Family

My little family is what gets me through everything. They are my rocks.

My husband is amazing and we are both very completive. Our favorite date nights always revolve around board games or putt putt or basically anything where there is a winner and loser.

While we love to compete against each other, we are a team for sure, especially when it comes to our dog- Clark Kent.

Clark Kent is our 4 year old bundle of joy. He loves to sunbathe, sleep, and go on hikes for new sniffs. And he is absolutely obsessed with chicken.

I’m so thankful my boys and they bring me more joy than even photography (which I didn’t even think was possible).
